From April 26 to 28, Professor Claudia Felser, member of the German Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the US National Academy of Sciences, foreign member of the US National Academy of Engineering and director of Max Planck Institute of Solid State Chemical Physics, was invited by Professor Zhu Tiejun and Researcher Fu Chenguang of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Zhejiang University to visit Zhejiang University. Professor Felser made a special presentation and had in-depth and beneficial exchanges with professors, young teachers, postdocs and postgraduates of Zhejiang University.
Professor Claudia Felser's research focuses on new topological quantum materials, magnetic materials, thermoelectric materials, topological chemistry and other cutting-edge fields, and enjoys important international influence and reputation in related fields. She has received several important international awards, including the 2019 APS James C. McGroddy Award for New Materials and the 2022 Max Born Medal awarded jointly by the German Physical Society and the Royal Society of Physics.
Professor Felser and the young teachers of the School of Materials and the School of Physics had an exchange discussion on academic career development. Professor Felser shared his advice on the future academic development of young scientists based on his own experience, and encouraged them to explore and innovate in scientific research and make more contributions to promoting scientific development.
Professor Felser also conducted academic discussions with a number of graduate students and postdocs in the School of Materials. The students introduced Professor Felser to their latest research progress, and Professor Felser made constructive comments on the students' research. During the exchange, Professor Felser encouraged the young students to dare to ask big questions and commit to solving big questions when doing research. This exchange provides young teachers, postdocs and postgraduates with the opportunity to communicate with world-class scholars face to face, also broadens their international vision and scientific research ideas, and provides useful guidance for their scientific research work.
In addition, Professor Felser also visited some of the laboratories of the School of Materials in the new building, and she spoke highly of the self-built scientific research equipment.
