The 8th National Undergraduate metallographic skills competition was held in Changshu, Jiangsu Province from July 25 to 30, 2019. 765 contestants from 255 universities participated in the competition. College of materials science and engineering of Zhejiang University sent Gao Mingyu, Fu Yihan and Wu zunchun to participate in the competition, led by Liu Jiabin and Liu Fu.

In the first day's competition of ductile iron metallographic specimen, Gao Mingyu, the first student, withstood the pressure and made a perfect sample which made all the contestants marvel. He won the special prize of Lycra cup. At the end of the day, the three students exchanged experience with competitors from other schools in time to discuss the unexpected problems and on-the-spot improvement methods in the competition. The two teachers Liu also analyzed the competition trends for the students in time to make full preparations for the next day's competition. In the next day's competition of metallographic samples of industrial pure iron, all three students played steadily, and Gao Mingyu entered the finals of the third day.

After fierce competition, Gao Mingyu won the first prize in the national metallographic competition, Fu Yihan won the second prize in the national metallographic competition, and Wu zunchun won the third prize in the national metallographic competition. With the steady development of the students and the careful guidance of the teachers, the team of Zhejiang University also won the third prize of the group.
