Abstract
Li-ion batteries are the critical enabling technology for the portable devices, electric vehicles (EV), and renewable energy. However, the safety of current batteries still needs to be improved to satisfy these requirements. The safety concern mainly comes from the flammable organic electrolytes. Alternatively, aqueous electrolyte and solid electrolyte are attracting intensive attention due to their intrinsic non-flammability. In this talk, my previous works on the regulating the electrolyte structure will be introduced. I systematically investigated the relationship between the electrolyte solvation structure and the electrochemical stability window of the electrolytes, interface/interphase stability, as well as the cell reversibility. Several methods that could tuning the solvation cages, both liquid and solid, will be demonstrated. The critical issues limiting these safe electrolytes will be discussed.
Brief introduction of the Lecturer
At present, Dr. Wang Fei is engaged in postdoctoral research in the research group of Professor Yet-Ming Chiang (academician of the American Academy of engineering, famous battery expert, founder of A123 and 24m Technology) of MIT. His research direction is basic research and development of solid electrolyte system with anti-perovskite structure. In 2015, Dr. Wang Fei received his doctorate from the Department of chemistry, Fudan University (Tutor: Prof. Xia Yongyao). After graduation, he worked in the research group of Prof. Chunsheng Wang of the University of Maryland, engaged in the design, development and related basic theoretical research of high safety new secondary battery electrolyte system. A total of 46 SCI papers (IF > 10, 32, 8 highly cited ESI papers) were published in international well-known journals, including 15 first author papers (10 independent first authors), including Nature Materials (IF = 33.887), Energy Environ. Sci. (IF = 32.25, 2), J. Am. Chem. Soc. (IF = 14.695), Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. (IF = 12.257, 2), Adv. Energy Mater. (IF > 24.884, 2), Joule, ACS Central Science (IF = 12. 837), J. Mater. Chem.
