Brief introduction of the Lecturer
Professor Xie Maohai is currently working in the Department of physics of the University of Hong Kong. He graduated from the Department of electronic engineering, Tianjin University in 1985. Then he obtained a master's degree from the Institute of semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and a doctor's degree from Imperial College of London University in 1994. After more than two years of postdoctoral research at Imperial College of London University, he joined the Department of physics of the University of Hong Kong in 1997 and successively served as assistant professor, associate professor and professor. He served as head of the Department from January 2017 to December 2019. He was also vice president and President of the Hong Kong Physical Society. Professor Xie’s is devoted to the study of materials and surface physics, especially molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) growth of thin films, characterization of surface atomic structure, electronic properties by electron diffraction, scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In recent years, he has focused on the epitaxial growth and properties of two-dimensional materials (such as MoSe2, WSe2, MoTe2, etc.), and has published more than 150 scientific papers.
