Recently, Qi Zhu, a Ph.D. student at Zhejiang University's School of Materials and Engineering, was awarded the Graduate Student Award (Silver Winner) 2020 By the American Materials Research Society (MRS) and presented an oral presentation at the MRS 2020 Fall Conference as a winner with the title Atomistic Insight into the Map of the University of China of Grain Boundary.

Founded in 1973 and headquartered in the United States, MRS currently has more than 14,000 members from 88 countries around the world and is a prestigious international academic organization in the fields of materials, physics, chemistry, biology, energy, and more. The MRS Annual Meeting is one of the largest academic conferences in the world, with more than 10,000 participants each year. This year, due to the epidemic, the spring and fall annual meetings were held online. In order to recognize and encourage graduate students who have made outstanding research achievements in the field of materials research and demonstrated their potential for future development, MRS has established the Graduate Student Award since 2001, selected a number of outstanding graduate students worldwide, announced the results at the annual meeting and held an award ceremony. It is reported that the MRS Fall Conference from all over the world a total of 15 outstanding graduate students won this award, the winners are mainly from the United States and Europe's top universities, Qi Zhu is the only winner from Chinese universities.

Zhu received his bachelor's degree from the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Northeastern University in June 2016 and his Ph.D. from Zhejiang University's School of Materials Science and Engineering in September of the same year. His main research direction is the interface deformation mechanism of metal materials, and the atomic scale mechanism of crystal deformation under stress is revealed for the first time by using advanced in-place nanomedynamic testing methods. To date, 12 papers have been published in leading international academic journals, including 8 by the first author (including co-first authors), including Nature Materials, Nature Communications (2), ACS Nano and Acta Materialia. He has given many academic reports at important international and domestic conferences, including the 10th Pacific Rim International Conference on Advanced Materials and Technology (PRICM 10), the National Electron Microscopy Annual Conference, etc., which have been widely praised. He has won many awards such as the 2019 National Scholarship for Doctoral Students, selected for the 2019 Zhejiang University Doctorate Academic Rising Star Program, and the 2020 National Electron Microscopy Annual Conference Excellent Report.
